10/10/01 Request for Introduction of Vegetarian Meals into Public Institutions
Animal Friends would like to inform you that our delivery of the "Request for introduction of vegetarian meals into public institutions" to Members of Parliament was successful.
The requests were delivered to Members of Parliament on October 10 at 9:00 A.M. at Markov trg, in front of the entrance to the Parliament. Before delivering the request to Members of Parliament, we've also delivered it to the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, the Ministries of Health, Education, Defense, Science, Labor and Welfare, as well as to the House Speaker and parliamentary groups.
The responses of Members of Parliament were very positive and they declared that we could certainly count on their support. You can see some of the statements of Members of Parliament - as well as of representatives of our association - in some of the programs on the Croatian National Television (Zagrebacka panorama, Odjeci dana and some other news programs), CCN news, Serbus Zagreb on OTV, or you can listen to them on the Obiteljski radio.
A year ago, at World Vegetarian Day on October 1, we began colecting signatures in a petition, and we have attached this petition to the request. Just last week, during this year's World Vegetarian Day, we have collected several thousands of signatures in Zagreb.
We believe that it is about time that the Republic of Croatia joins the majority of other countries in which vegetarians are not deprived of their right to meatless meals in public institutions. We have attached our request so you can get a good insight into this problem.
Animal Friends is an organization that campaigns for animal protection and promotes vegetarianism as an ethical, ecological and healthy way of living.
