If you need quick, simple and delicious vegan dish recipes that you will serve for lunch or dinner, take a look at our top five recommendations. Whether are you vegan yourself or somebody in your household is vegan, or maybe you just want to try something new, you will find excellent examples of irresistible vegan delicacies and advices on how to spend holidays in spirit of well-being, peace and compassion for all living creatures.

1. “Veganize” classical dishes without fear!

Feel free to experiment with vegetables, cereal, beans or vegan products such as soy milk, mayonnaise, cream or margarine in order to make vegan versions of classic dishes such as mashed potatoes, French salad and more complex dishes as, for example, baked vegetable loaf. Using lentils and mushrooms, bake a delicious and healthy loaf, or use the same recipe, but a little more liquid, for shepherds’ pie. Instead of potatoes, you can use sweet potatoes to make it even healthier. Give “veganization” of classical dishes a try and make: stuffed peppers, cabbage rolls or eggplant buns instead of meat greaves. For Christmas Eve, you can serve potatoes a la codfish with seaweed for sea flavor, and the day after you can surprise everybody with your main dish: stuffed seitan roast with mushroom gravy.

2. Eggs are not necessary for cakes at all – use vegan replacements

Everybody knows that eggs are not necessary for any cake – not for pancakes, nor for custard pastries or any creamy cake. Make custard pastries out of sweet potatoes, cake of beans or fake Nutella from chestnut and surprise everyone when you tell them what the secret ingredient of your vegan dessert is. Whoever tried making egg-free cakes knows that in most cases you don’t even need a substitute. The simplest and cheapest substitute for eggs is usually herbal oil that is excellent in keeping the form of the cake. Good mixtures for blending various components in cakes, that are supposed to be more greasy and harder, are peanut butter, sesame butter etc. Also, when blending ingredients in a meal, about 30 grams of mashed tofu can replace one egg. For vegan “claws”, honey biscuits or similar cakes, in which banana flavor is desirable, you can use mixed bananas: use half of smashed smaller and very ripe banana to replace one egg.

3. Award yourself with vegan junk food and enjoy it

Holidays are days when even those most devoted to nutrition stop counting calories and enjoy large quantities of food without feeling guilty. It is the same with vegans! The claim that vegans only eat very healthy is a big prejudice. There are many popular products available in any store that are in junk food category and happen to be vegan. For people who have just started this kind of diet, those products can help them to relax as they are used to, so be sure to get to know them. Try pizza with vegan cheese, fry your vegetables or tofu with vegan tempura made of chickpea flower, try baked potatoes in every possible way, and for your Christmas party serve tofu or carrot vegan hot dog.

4. Vegan cookbooks and cruelty-free gifts are an excellent token of attention for your loved ones

You still haven’t chosen gifts for your loved ones and are looking for a last minute idea? Surprise them with a vegan cookbook! In our bookstores, you can find excellent vegan cookbooks which will give your loved ones the opportunity to try everyday various, slightly different combinations and enjoy new vegan flavors. Such a gift will also show them that you care for them. According to The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, vegan way of nutrition is proclaimed to be the best choice for both health and environment, and they have also proven that it decreases the risk for diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, some forms of cancer and heart diseases. Always choose cruelty–free gifts: when buying clothes, check the declaration to see if it contains leather, fur, wool or silk, and when buying perfumes, make-up or other hygienic and cosmetic products, buy only those that were not tested on animals.

5. Share your opinion on vegan holiday table being the best choice with your loved ones

Our foodstuffs are directly linked to environment degradation, numerous health issues and unthinkable cruelty to animals. On the other hand, we are what we eat. A well-known American writer and author of the book “The World Peace Diet”, Dr. Will Tuttle, said: “The act of regularly eating foods derived from confined and brutalized animals forces us to become somewhat emotionally desensitized, and this numbing and inner armoring make it possible for us as a culture to devastate the earth, slaughter people in wars, and support oppressive social structures without feeling remorse. There is no way to overstate the magnitude of the collective spiritual transformation that will occur when we shift from food of violent oppression to food of gentleness and compassion.”

Throughout the world, more than 150 billion animals suffer and die even though they are, just as we, made of blood, meat and bones and have the same emotional and primary needs. Encourage those with whom you are spending the most beautiful family days to choose making plant-based dishes and explore healthy and compassionate diet more often.

Animal Friends invite everybody to enjoy plant-based recipes during the holidays and the rest of the year and wish everyone a merry vegan Christmas and a compassionate new year.
