12/20/01 Christmas
Animal Friends was founded to inform the public about the suffering of animals and to show people how they can protect animals on a daily base. Over the last few months, we already have had successes such as our latest demonstration against fur, wherein 40 members of our organization participated and which received a lot of support from passers-by. The number of people that join our organization is growing every day and the public's interest for the protection of animals and vegetarianism is increasing rapidly.
We show the public how animals are treated, but we also provide alternatives to end the end the suffering of, and the violence against these innocent creatures. Animals can not speak up for themselves, so we wil be their voice. We want people to become aware that their present lifestyle causes great suffering to animals. As the holiday season is near, we fear that dinner plates will be filled with animal suffering.
We would like to invite you to our give-away of vegetarian Christmas cakes and vegetarian recipes for a cruelty-free Christmas. The give-away will take place on December 20 at 4:30 P.M. around the big Christmas tree on Ban Josip Jelacic Square.
Like many of our members, you too can decide to celebrate Christmas without meat. All it takes is a good will and respect for all forms of life. That's what Christmas is all about! Animal Friends will be holding a peaceful protest and will hand out leaflets and recipes to help make this Christmas cruelty-free. The event will take place on Thursday, December 20, 2001. We strongly believe that the holiday season shouldn't be a reason to hurt animals. Let's celebrate Christmas without unnecessary violence. Enjoy delicious vegetarian food and cakes and let animals live!
We are surrounded by Christmas decorations and shop windows full of merchandise, pictures and costumes of Santa Claus. We are buying presents and are listening to Christmas carols on the radio. Everybody is ready to send their message of love and peace to the world. But at the same time, millions of dead animals are ending up on our dinner plates. Is THIS the message of "love and peace" that we want to send out?
Would it be the purpose of Christmas, or any other holiday, to cause great pain to animals and fill our stomachs with their corpses? All around the world, people are dying of starvation, but the "Western holiday spirit" ends up with great amounts of food being thrown into the garbage. Millions of turkeys, pigs, chickens, cows and other animals will suffer for a celebration that should be all about compassion and love.
By organizing a give-away, Animal Friends will try to get the public's attention to the tremendous suffering of animals during a Christian celebration. We will hand out flyers with information about the torture and abuse that animals have to go through for our "peaceful" holidays. The leaflets will also contain a few simple and tasty vegetarian recipes for the upcoming holiday season and we will hand out delicious cookies made without milk and eggs.
We hope to see you Thursday December 20 at 4:30 P.M. by the big Christmas tree on Ban Josip Jelacic Square!
