On the occasion of the Plant-based Burgers Day, Animal Friends Croatia will offer freshly baked plant-based burgers served in delicious pastries with fresh toppings and sauces to passersby on Saturday, June 4th, at 11 a.m.

Furthermore, anyone who buys a vegan burger at the store any day until June 11th or treats themselves to such a burger at one of the restaurants that offer them will win a delicious prize at the VeggieFair. It is enough to show the receipt at the stand of the organizer, Animal Friends Croatia.

Celebrating the Plant-based Burgers Day is a good warm-up for the upcoming 11th VeggieFair that many are impatiently looking forward to. VeggieFair visitors will be able to try various burgers and other delicious vegan meals from as many as 6 different restaurants, as well as visit more than 20 exhibitors who will offer tastings and promotions.

Plant-based Burgers Day is celebrated on June 5th, on the same day as World Environment Day. Since vegan food is the formula for our survival on this plant, this coincidence is extremely significant. Preparing a plant-based burger uses 99 percent less water, 93 percent less land, emits 90 percent less harmful gases and consumes as much as 46 percent less energy in comparison to a beef burger.

Plant-based burgers have a very similar taste and texture as animal meat and are produced from quality plant-based proteins, most often peas. Some even bleed while cooked thanks to beetroot juice, and the smell can deceive almost anyone. They are available frozen in almost all major stores and are also produced by Croatian manufacturers. More and more restaurants and fast-food chains offer them ready-made. They are also now available in a variant of “chicken” meat. Aside from being “environmentally-conscious” vegan burgers are gaining more popularity due to their health benefits.

Namely, a new study published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics compared the nutritional composition of plant-based meat with that of ground beef. Researchers studied nutrients from 37 types of plant-based meat to assess the content of calories, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals. The study results revealed that plant-based meat has fewer calories, and is rich in dietary fiber which is not found in animal meat, but also folate, niacin, iron, phosphorus, manganese and copper, while, on the other hand, they do not contain cholesterol and harmful substances related to breeding and slaughter of animals, such as antibiotics.

„Behind plant-based burgers much more is available besides the delicious taste. Each of our choices for plant-based food presents a good deed for our plant and everyone on it”, states Animal Friends Croatia and invites everyone to join them in celebrating Plant-based Burgers Day.
