The ZeGeVege festival of sustainable living, organized by Animal Friends Croatia, has become an important part of the educational and tourist offer of Zagreb and Croatia through its 15 years of existing. This unique event, held every year, attracts thousands of visitors from all over Croatia and abroad, promoting the protection of animals, the environment and health.
The 16th ZeGeVege festival will be held on September 6, 7 and 8 at the European Square, where various domestic and foreign exhibitors, various associations and humanitarian and ecological initiatives will gather. Exhibitors will offer exclusively herbal products with tastings and promotions, and all visitors, who are expected to number in the tens of thousands this year, will be able to receive a free educational brochure. The holders of the V-label, a striking yellow-green mark that has been on products around the world for more than 20 years, will also be presented.
During the ZeGeVege festival, Zagreb and Croatia support and promote sustainability. Through various activities, educational panels and on-stage conversations with people who live such a life, visitors can learn about the importance of a vegan diet and lifestyle, environmentally friendly practices, recycling and waste reduction. All this is in accordance with the so-called "Low-carbon strategy", which was adopted by the Croatian Parliament in June 2021. It is a much-needed plan to mitigate climate change and stop the cause of global warming. It states that "a significant (direct and indirect) reduction of greenhouse gas emissions could be achieved with changes in the eating habits of society, that is, with measures to encourage greater consumption of plant-based foods."
"ZeGeVege also offers freshly prepared various vegan dishes, some very similar to local dishes and tastes that people in this climate are used to, and some very exotic and interesting at the same time. Innovative plant-based products such as vegan sausages, cheeses, burgers and spreads intended for everyone will also be presented. With these dishes, we can all participate in stopping global warming, protecting animals and our own health. Visitors will be able to discover new flavours and get information about the importance of vegan products and dishes along with various interesting things. Everyone is welcome to the green oasis, which this year takes place over three days, from Friday to Sunday," said Animal Friends Croatia.
"We should all be concerned about the fact that raising animals for food contributes more to climate change than all the traffic. However, the fact that by choosing vegan products and dishes we can reduce our carbon footprint by an incredible 50 percent gives hope that each of us can do a lot for people, animals and our only planet, on which we want to survive", the association added.
The ZeGeVege festival is organized on a non-profit basis and is a platform for education about animal rights, health and environmental issues. The educational aspect of the ZeGeVege festival attracts students, families and individuals of all ages, creating a more aware and engaged community. This event also creates opportunities for local entrepreneurs and artisans to present their products and services to a wider audience, encouraging economic growth and development in the production and consumption of life-saving herbal products.
