02/07/08 For Europe without Seal Fur
Animal Friends launched an international campaign
Animal Friends Croatia, Scandinavian Anti-Sealing Coalition, Campaigns Against The Cruelty To Animals, Canada, and Atlantic Canadian Anti-Sealing Coalition have launched an international campaign for the ban on trade in seal products all over Europe!
This campaign has been launched in support to the Humane Society International and other groups and individuals who have been fighting a battle to end the seal slaughter in Canada for years already, when every spring 350,000 seal pups are brutally killed.
During this campaign, Animal Friends sent a letter of request for the ban on trade in seal products to countries which still have not enforced this ban, while sending a thank-you note of support to the countries – Slovenia, Croatia, Belgium and the Netherlands – that already have this ban.
During January and February Animal Friends contacted more than 1,200 presidents of states, prime ministers, members of governments and parliaments, political parties and parliamentary groups, MEPs and MPs of the European Union member states.
The European Commission wants to hear your voice!
In order to hear the public opinion, the European Commission opened a consultation on what the citizens of Europe think about trade in seal products on its web site. Animal Friends thus invite Croatian media and citizens of Republic of Croatia to express their attitude in accordance with the ban on trade in seal products which Croatia enforced on March 27, 2006, and once more give their support to ending of the Canadian seal slaughter.
This consultation will remain open until February 13, 2008 and it can be found at http://ec.europa.eu/yourvoice/ipm/forms/dispatch?form=seals.
The campaign "For Europe without Seal Products" will also continue in the months to follow, and the Croatian public will be notified about it in time.
