06/27/16 Let's Extinguish Irresponsibility
Animal Friends Croatia and Croatian Firefighting Community are inviting everyone not to abandon animals.
- The campaign "Family to the Seaside, Dog to the Street?": firefighters and abandoned dogs on posters across Croatia
This already traditional summer campaign, organized by Animal Friends Croatia, called "Family to the Seaside, Dog to the Street?", this year was accompanied by the Croatian Firefighting Association. Firefighters extinguish fire every day and save animals from dangerous situations, and now they want to point out that abandoned animals are alone and scared, exposed to dangerous situations, such as hunger, thirst, heat, car accidents, or at the mercy of malicious individuals.
Firemen and a firewoman have, therefore, gladly offered their support by participating in the visual presentation of the campaign under the slogan "Let’s Extinguish Irresponsibility". Besides firefighters, stars from the posters are Hus, Lucho, Mora, Ksena, Grucho and Fora, irresistible dogs from Zagreb shelter in Dumovac, all of which are looking for a new home. Together they are calling on adopting animals, instead of buying them, as well as on active engagement against abandoning and killing of animals.
Besides extinguishing fire across Croatian forests during summer months, through our conspicuous billboards across Croatia, firefighters will call on extinguishing the irresponsible behavior towards animals, which is wrecking Croatia though the increasing number of abandoned cats and dogs, especially before going on a vacation. Smaller posters will be distributed by fire departments and will be available to all who are interested.
The presentation of the campaign will be held on Wednesday, 29 June 2016 at 11 am at the intersection of the Varsavska street and Trg Petra Preradovica (Floral Square) in Zagreb. At the conveniently decorated booth, the campaign will be presented by the mayor, Milan Bandic, representatives of Animal Friends Croatia and Firefighting Association. Citizens will be particularly jollified by firemen and firewomen with full equipment, who, accompanied by the charming dogs from Dumovac, will be available for taking photos. Dogs are also for adoption.
Although, according to Animal Protection Act, abandoning animas is punishable by a fine up to 15 000 kn, the main problem remains the non-implementation of that law. It is also alarming that many cities, despite the legal obligation, still don't shelter animals in accordance with the law, don't have info centers and do not implement programs of animal castration and education of the citizens about animal protection. The result of the insufficient implementation of castration programs is the increasing number of dogs and cats, who, instead of being family members, end their lives on streets and in "shelters" with 60 days killing deadline. Those who buy animals contribute to the problem, to the detriment of abandoned animals who could be saved.
Therefore, Croatian Firefighting Community and AFC, appeal to all who are looking for a four-legged family member to think twice if they have the financial and other conditions for a long-term care of the animal, and to open their hearts and homes to one of the numerous abandoned animals waiting in shelter or foster homes.
Animal Friends Croatia would like to thank everyone who contributed to the realization of posters "Let's Extinguish Irresponsibility". Voluntary and professional help was provided by Ana Mihalic (photography), Nives Spajic (makeup) and Maja Zaklan (poster design). The campaign was realized in cooperation and with the support of the City Office for Agriculture and Forestry of City of Zagreb, Shelter for abandoned animals of City of Zagreb in Dumovec, Europlakat, Art, Studio Zale, Avalon and Maraja services.
