- Children learn about the basics of cooking and a plant-based diet in a relaxed atmosphere; new web page for children now available

In order to raise awareness about the importance of healthy plant-based diets, Animal Friends started a project named "Make Grub" aimed at primary school students.

The workshops are intended for fifth to eighth grade students with the aim of informing and educating students about plant-based ingredients and the basics of cooking. In a relaxed atmosphere and jolly company, students will actively participate in small groups of six to eight people at the guided workshop where they will prepare plant-based dishes from start to finish. At the end of the workshop, students will be able to eat what they prepared, ask additional questions, and socialize.

At previous workshops, students prepared tasty meals from imaginative recipes prepared for them by the hosts. They made pumpkin soup, gazpacho, cauliflower risotto, onion quiche, seitan ravioli, oat chocolate balls and Danube waves. Apart from main courses, students also learned to make delicious smoothies and excellent but simple salad dressings.

The new cooking workshop will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 12:00 P.M. Dishes that the students will prepare remain a surprise until the day of the workshop.

Thanks to the excellent collaboration with a few schools, we have received an overwhelmingly great response to the workshops from both the students and their teachers. Ten workshops were scheduled to take place by the end of this year, and already seven of them have been held. The students' reactions after the workshops have been wonderful and teachers have expressed their satisfaction and have often given us feedback about students motivating their families to make meals from the workshops together. Animal Friends therefore wants to introduce this educational project to the public, and include students from other elementary schools in the workshops.

A new web page has been created for the needs of the project: www.spremi-klopu.com where students who took part in workshops and all those who want to will be able to find information, interesting facts, recipes of workshop dishes, and photos from the workshops. They will be able to enrich their knowledge about a healthy diet and make vegan dishes.

Animal Friends is aware of the importance of learning, socializing, health and developing good life values, and believes that this project deserves attention. Positive experiences from previous participants are an excellent invitation to children, parents and schools to join in, and above all, confirm that students can recognize the values that come along with a plant-based diet, good health and caring about ecology and compassionate meals.

Workshops are up to three hours long and are held according to arrangements at Animal Friend’s venue at Jurisiceva 25 in Zagreb. All interested students can apply to participate in the workshops by filling out an application at www.prijatelji-zivotinja.hr or www.spremi-klopu.com.

All interested media representatives can visit the next cooking workshop on December 3 and obtain more information from children, teacher Karmela Farkas, nutritionist Ivana Simic, workshop presenter Anita Euschen, and project leader Vanda Petanjek.
