10/25/01 Ban the Use of Animals in Circuses
Invitation to the press conference about the arrival of the Italian Medrano circus and the demands of animal welfare organizations to ban circuses with animal acts
Public opposition to animal abuse in circuses is increasing. We therefore would like to invite you to a press conference where we want to inform you about what is really happening in circuses and how the animals in circuses are treated. We want to inform you in the possible way, so we will show you a short movie called "The Ugliest Show on Earth" filmed in a circus in Great Britain. The film is made by the British organization Animal Defenders International and out of 400 hours of video footage they made a half hour movie which shows just a fraction of the suffering that these animals have to go through on a daily base. During the press conference we will also explain why we urge the City of Zagreb to ban circuses with animal acts and to join many cities in Europe and all over the world that have already banned the use of animals in circuses.

Animal Friends has already sent a demand for a complete ban on circuses with animal acts to the mayor of Zagreb Milan Bandic, the President of Croatia Stjepan Mesic, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and to the Ministry of Environment protection.
